This past Sunday I rode my bike to brunch and it was AWESOME. It was only a ten-mile round trip bike ride, but I rode home all by myself.

The stories of heroism and generosity. I am waiting to hear the plan so we can prevent this from happening again. I am hopeful and heartbroken, but you can choose to be both.
Read MoreErik has been going through an emotional phase. When we reprimand him, he gets emotional, which can feel a bit manipulative. For example, today, when I picked him up at after-school care, he saw me and kept right on doing what he was doing. I said, "Come on guys, clean-up, let's go."

You move a piece of furniture inside and tell yourself it is just for a little bit, you’ll get what you REALLY want soon. Then life happens and other projects and BOOM, next thing you know it has been THREE or 20 years and you still have the furniture that you never liked inside your house.

Read MoreIn June of 2017 we took out an equity loan and hired a contractor to help us install a large paver patio, path and decomposed granite around the pool. We cleaned the pool up in 2013, resurfaced it in 2015 and 2017 was the year we finally stopped mowing the grass around the pool! Hurrah!
